Topic description

This topic aims to equip students with advanced knowledge and skills required to strategically align Performance Management and Rewards practises with organisational priorities. Students will be equipped with skills and knowledge to differentiate between different approaches and then to select those that best meet with organisational needs - covering large organisations to SMEs. Part of the course work will require a critical analysis of the Performance Management and Rewards strategies used in an Organisation and to design an intervention that improves outcomes

Educational aims

This topic aims to develop the skills and knowledge required to equip students to understand the options available to practitioners in designing an evidence-based performance management and rewards program. Students learn to evaluate different methods and to determine the best methods that are fit-for-purpose taking into account the scale of the Organisation, the number of employees and management objectives.

Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Identify the alignment between an Organisation's strategic objectives and performance management systems
  2. Identify options for managing employees and rewarding performance that align with Organisational objectives
  3. Identify strengths and weaknesses of different reward schemes at an individual, group and organisational level
  4. Critically evaluate a Performance Management and Rewards system used in an Organisations
  5. Design an intervention to improve Performance Management and Rewards within an Organisation
