Topic description
This topic contains PBL cases, which integrate audiological issues with initiatives and programs such as universal neonatal hearing screening, hearing conservation and community development programs. Other focal areas are clinical audit, evidence-based practice, and medico-legal issues. Invited industry representatives present across a range of topics.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • develop the student's knowledge and skills in areas of professional practice which require them to plan, develop, manage and evaluate initiatives within the workplace and within community settings.

  • develop the student’s understanding of evidence-based practice in the health professions and the ability to apply this to clinical audiology.

  • familiarise the student with the principles of clinical audit and its relevance to health care settings

Expected learning outcomes
Following completion of this topic, students will be able to:

  • demonstrate knowledge in a range of advanced and specialised areas of audiological practice as introduced in the problem based learning cases and associated sessions in this semester.
