Topic description

This topic will develop the knowledge and skills required to understand a range of body systems (cardiac, respiratory, integumentary, GIT, musculo-skeletal, special senses) and undertake a related nursing assessment.

Educational aims

This topic aims to introduce the physical dimensions of being human, including physiological changes in humans across the lifespan, and to develop skills to conduct a nursing health assessment at a beginning level.

Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Examine normal human body structure and function across the lifespan (cardiac, respiratory, integumentary, GIT, elimination, musculo-skeletal, special senses)
  2. Apply foundational communication and psychomotor skills to undertake a nursing health assessment
  3. Apply professional standards to the physical assessment of a person recognizing changes across the lifespan
