FREN1201 Introductory French Part 1

This topic provides students with an intensive introduction to the sounds, structures and vocabulary of standard French. It aims to have students actively reading, writing and speaking simple French by the end of the semester. Use of computer and audio facilities is a required component of this topic.

This topic aims to:

• Introduce beginner students to the sounds, structures and vocabulary of standard modern French
• Expose beginner students to social and cultural aspects of contemporary France
• Assist students in developing language learning skills and basic learning strategies

1. Recognise, recall and reproduce the basic sounds, structures and vocabulary of elementary French
2. Take part in structured conversations using elementary French
3. Focus on learning styles and strategies
