Topic description
This topic provides students with principles and theories of organisational communication. It examines the function of communication in professional settings, through analysis of case studies and real world situations. It examines the role of different strategies and media in completing successful projects in a range of organisations, and may include study of public relations campaigns, crisis communication cases and strategic leadership practices.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • allow students to explore ways in which theoretical skills can apply to employment scenarios
  • provide students with an understanding of working in the communication industries
  • develop students’ understanding of the skills, knowledge and attitudes required in the communication industries
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • apply techniques and skills acquired in the degree in a professional context
  • evaluate their own role in a professional setting
  • analyse strengths and weakness of their chosen project
  • communicate issues related to their industry context, both verbally and in writing
