Topic description
This topic explores the concept of clinical governance and evidence based practice and explores the aspects of clinical governance in a continuous cycle of 'do and review'.
Students develop skills that include searching and reviewing research and other evidence for translation into practice.
Educational aims
This topic aims to examine the principles and the process of evidence-based practice and to explore the role of the registered nurse in relation to clinical governance and evidence-based research to provide person centred care.
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
- Discuss the role of research in health and the role of evidence-based practice (EBP) in the provision of patient care
- Critically appraise different study designs and exhibit an understanding of the evidence they produce
- Formulate a clinical question to yield the most relevant and best evidence
- Analyse the impact of clinical governance on efficiency and practice standards
- Reflect on the role of the Registered Nurse in maximising EBP across the healthcare organisation
