Topic description
Collaborating with industry stakeholders and engaging with community groups and organisations is a vital skill for working in the creative industries. This topic develops these skills through the exploration of various strategies, policies and approaches to collaborating with external stakeholders in creative projects. Starting with the initiation of the project through to the projects evaluation, the topic culminates in a presentation of students’ community-engaged arts projects.
Educational aims

This topic aims to:

  • Increase students' knowledge and appreciation of a range of industry stakeholders and community organisations who collaborate with artists on creative outcomes
  • Enhance students' ability to initiate and respond to collaborative opportunities with external stakeholders in reflexive and inclusive ways (including processes of communication, negotiation, scheduling, implementation of mutually agreed objectives and evaluation of outcomes)
  • Provide opportunities for students to develop practical skills in designing, planning and producing a collaborative community engaged arts project
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be expected to be able to:

  1. Analyse current collaborations and community engaged projects occurring in the creative industries
  2. Design a community engaged arts project (including suggested processes for communicating with the stakeholders, proposed schedules and timelines for completion, acknowledgement of potential barriers to the project, and a description of the expected project outcome)
  3. Plan and implement a process of documentation for a community engaged arts project
  4. Create and/or produce a community engaged arts project outcome
  5. Evaluate their community engaged arts project
