Topic description
In this topic students will reflect on and integrate pathophysiology, pharmacology and psychosocial knowledge to provide evidence based, person-centred care for people with increasingly complex health needs.
Educational aims
The aim of this topic is to develop students’ clinical reasoning and decision- making skills to communicate and provide evidence-based comprehensive nursing care for people with complex health care needs.
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic, students will be expected to be able to:

  1. Articulate the rationale for nursing care using the clinical reasoning cycle for individuals with complex health care needs

  2. Demonstrate and implement evidenced based person-centred nursing care from a holistic perspective

  3. Analyse the effectiveness of nursing care provision and revise care requirements for the management of complex health situations

  4. Critically reflect on clinical decision making in the provision of evidence-based comprehensive nursing care for people with complex health needs

  5. Use professional terminology to communicate a clear, coherent and individualised nursing care plan.
