American Studies and the Australian Political System.

Assignments, Fieldwork and Project

This topic provides valuable educational and practical experience by assisting the US Consulate-General in accomplishing its mission goals. The topic includes an internship and during this students will pursue a project of interest to the internship provider and the student. The aim of the internship is to establish, promote and maintain relationships between young Australian and Americans as each become leaders in their respective countries.

This topic aims to:

Introduce students to the operations of the US political system by work experience in a US Consulate office
Develop an understanding of the various pressures that shape the policies of working politicians and administrators
Sharpen research and reporting skills through working on applied projects as part of their involvement in the workings of their office
Understand how a US Consulate office operates within the Australian Political System
Consolidate students' written and communication skills

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Understand the specific characteristics of the work done by the office or unit to which they were assigned

Complete a satisfactory 4000 word paper based on that project
