Topic description
In this topic, students undertake a placement with an approved industry group or community group/agency relevant to their field of study, including approved internships, field education, or vocational and professional practice projects with industry and community organisations.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • Assist students in identifying a career path and beginning the transition from study to employment

  • Expose students to current trends in their area of expertise

  • Deepen participants’ knowledge of workplace skills and expertise specific to their area of study

  • Provide students with work experience and industry contacts that may assist their entry to the workforce.
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic, students will be expected to be able to:

  1. Establish connections between the knowledge, skills and attributes students are developing through their studies and how these are applied in the workplace

  2. Develop workplace skills, including communication, team-work, problem solving, critical thinking and professionalism

  3. Explain the outcomes of the placement in written form

  4. Extend professional networks and connections.
