Topic description

This topic investigates an aspect of Old Testament Studies. This aspect might be recent Old Testament exegesis, new discoveries concerning the ancient Middle-East and its relationship to Old Testament Studies, Old Testament semantic studies, or a special topic within Old Testament theology. A proposed method of assessment must be submitted to the topic convener. After approval has been given, a supervisor with whom the student will work will be appointed.

This topic aims to provide students with opportunities to:

  • Investigate an aspect of Old Testament Studies in depth
  • Develop skills in basic research and analysis
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Identify an aspect of Old Testament Studies that merits scholarly investigation
  2. Identify relevant recent and historical literature about the chosen issue and critically evaluate its relevance
  3. Communicate theoretical and theological concepts related to Old Testament Studies to a variety of audiences
  4. Demonstrate exegetical skills and hermeneutical sensitivity in interpreting biblical texts
  5. Demonstrate research skills in identifying, accessing, assessing, and analysing relevant primary and secondary sources related to Old Testament Studies
