Topic description

The purpose of this topic is for participants to develop high level skills in reading and interpreting literature. The primary focus is the use of texts to enable participants to understand, analyse and debate meaning, put important works and writers into literary and cultural contexts, consider the importance of genre/s, and be exposed to relevant literary theory.

Educational aims

The topic aims to deepen participants' ability to interpret literature through critical reasoning skills and analysis of the cultural contexts of texts.

Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Discuss their knowledge and understanding of research principles in relation to contemporary areas of research in literature
  2. Explain critical reasoning skills
  3. Validate their ideas, analysis and research both verbally and in writing
