OCCT8003 Occupational Therapy Practice 2

This topic will enable students to build on their knowledge and skills for occupational therapy practice in the areas of acute care, rehabilitation, aged care, working with communities, children and families and people who are affected by mental illness.

Students will apply key theoretical approaches including the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework to these practice areas to extend their understanding of occupational therapy practice.

This topic aims to extend the student's ability to apply the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework and key theoretical approaches to practice, and to develop and refine core skills in occupational therapy practice.

1. Analyse case scenarios, and using the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework and key practice models determine an occupational evaluation and intervention plan to support occupational engagement
2. Analyse and integrate occupational therapy practice skills at an intermediate level
3. Demonstrate clinical reasoning at a beginning level through analysis and application of case scenarios
4. Apply reflective practice skills to analyse and consider client/consumer needs
5. Explain and demonstrate the importance of practicing in a culturally responsive and culturally safe manner
6. Explain and demonstrate an understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ experiences of health, wellbeing and the impact of these on occupational engagement
