This topic will enable students to extend their knowledge and skills of occupational therapy practice to an advanced level in the areas of children and families and people who are affected by mental illness. Key occupational therapy practice areas and approaches that will be covered include; therapeutic communication, play, sensory processing and modulation, risk assessment, self-management and trauma informed care.
The Occupational Therapy Practice Framework will inform examination and analysis and of the occupational implications of motor, cognitive, sensory-perceptual, social and communication skills, and psychosocial and emotional development.
This topic aims to extend students' application of the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework, and key theoretical approaches to practice to an advanced level. Students will refine and extend their skills in occupational therapy practice in the areas of working with children, families and people who are affected by mental illness at an individual and community level.
