Topic description
This topic will introduce the student to key skills of academia and principles of rehabilitation practice. Foundational skills in locating and analysing literature will be explored, as well as the origins and theoretical foundations of rehabilitation practice, key features of rehabilitation in comparison to acute medical practice, and contemporary delivery of rehabilitation.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  1. Develop skills of critical thinking for effective, comprehensive writing

  2. Review the key principles of clinical rehabilitation, and the theoretical frameworks supporting practice.
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic, students will be expected to be able to:

  1. Critically appraise current literature in rehabilitation and demonstrate skills in effective academic writing

  2. Synthesise clinical recommendations from multiple sources and reflect upon clinical practice

  3. Demonstrate understanding and application of the International Classification of Function (ICF) in rehabilitation practice

  4. Describe the defining features of a rehabilitation model of care.
