Course context

Internship places are limited. Where demand is greater than supply, internship place will be allocated based on student GPA.

Students wishing to undertake the public policy internship should contact the topic coordinator preferably 8 weeks before the semester start date. This allows time to choose an internship project, to apply to the agency, to undertake an interview with the internship agency, and to allow time for security checking processes by the agency, as required.

Topic description

The topic is an internship within the public sector, where the student will undertake a real project within a government organisation applying knowledge of public administration and policy theories.

This topic aims to enable students to undertake a real project within an organisation applying their knowledge of public administration and policy theories.

Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Critically apply their knowledge of public policy and administration theories in an organisational context
  2. Plan and conduct a supervised project with an organisation
  3. Interpret and report on the planning and management of a project, and on their own personal learning and the implications of the analysis for public policy
