Topic description
This topic will focus on two main aspects relating the practitioner inquiry in the context of international education and International Baccalaureate practice. Firstly, the theories and practices that underpin international education will be examined, and recent global influences on international education and the role of international educational organisations will also be addressed. Key elements in the research process and practical procedures appropriate for teacher-researchers to use when undertaking school based research will then be investigated. Students will integrate this learning to develop an area for research with reference to International Baccalaureate practice which is related to their own teaching or school context.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • analyse the educational theories that underpin international education and investigate issues of relevance in international education
  • examine the key elements of the research process and practical research procedures appropriate for teacher-researchers to use when undertaking school based research
  • identify researchable practice-based areas of inquiry with reference to international education, the International Baccalaureate and teaching and school contexts
Expected learning outcomes

  • evaluate the key elements of the research process and practical research procedures appropriate for teacher-researchers to use when undertaking school-based research
  • critically reflect upon their own practical knowledge of International Baccalaureate programme-related issues
