Topic description

Planning, innovating and leading educational reform is a principal attribute of the scholarly professional. This topic builds on the knowledge and experience of researching and writing in EDUC9976 Educational Futures. Candidates will develop an action plan for the transfer of their research to the field of professional practice. This may take the form of policy, curriculum, program or professional development. Candidates will produce one element of that plan in their field of interest and produce an outcome that encompasses evidence and professional practice implications. The outcome will demonstrate the manner in which their research study and its implications contribute to the field of education, educational leadership and educational reform.

Educational aims

This topic aims to develop student:

  • Critical capacity in assessing educational issues and their research dimensions
  • An advanced understanding of the politics and ethics of education policy, research and management
  • Knowledge of key issues in educational practice, policy, governance and cultural change
  • Awareness of the application of the diversity of strategies of innovative leadership, practitioner activism and strategies of effective change
  • Student capacity to plan, lead and educate for change in a chosen field of interest
  • Awareness of curriculum and pedagogical technologies for educational change, and
  • Experience in educating for educational change and reform
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an advanced capacity to identify and discuss key issues in education from a transdisciplinary perspective
  2. Demonstrate an advanced capacity to identify good educational research and the different forms of educational research
  3. Demonstrate an advanced capacity to appraise and review educational research and educational research articles
  4. Integrate and apply the multidisciplinary skills and knowledge that are required to progress education policy, management and practice
  5. Plan, lead and initiate a strategy for educational change and reform
  6. Develop teaching and learning materials and professional development skills on a topic of educational reform or innovation within their research field
