Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • provide students with an opportunity to develop their capacity to plan and undertake evaluations of primary health care initiatives.

  • enhance students' theoretical and practical understanding of key evaluation issues relevant to the practice of primary health care.

Expected learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this topic students will be able to:

  1. Apply some of the key evaluation concepts to the evaluation of primary health care initiatives

  2. Analyse critically examples of primary health care evaluation, highlighting strengths and weaknesses of the evaluations

  3. Critical analysis or critical review refers to stating agreement or disagreement with an author(s) and supporting the argument with evidence from the literature

  4. Select appropriate methods for the evaluation of a range of primary health care initiatives

  5. Provide a convincing rationale for an evaluation plan they have developed for a primary health care initiative of their choice

  6. Identify strategies to facilitate the dissemination and utilisation of evaluation findings

  7. Review critically and identify a range of evaluation resources.
