Topic description
This topic consolidates students’ knowledge of biblical Hebrew studies by increasing the scope of Hebrew scripture to be translated and by a more detailed examination of the structure of the language. A wider range of lexicographical aids is introduced with an increased knowledge of grammar and syntax of the Hebrew language.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:
- build on foundation skills in and knowledge of Biblical Hebrew
- expand skills in dealing with lexical, grammatical and syntactical knowledge
- review and expand skills in dealing with translation as a basis for exegesis of the biblical text
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to:
- translate selected Hebrew texts, with the assistance of dictionaries
- employ critical apparatus in the Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia (BHS) edition of the text
- develop skills in exegesis of the Hebrew Scriptures
