Topic description
This topic will allow students to pursue particular areas of interest in the tourism and events industry by taking up a project with an industry partner.

Students will identify an area of practice related to their field of study and this will form the case study to be examined and developed in this topic. The topic's emphasis will be on practical application of theory covered in a topic studied earlier in the course for which the student is enrolled, or an issue relating to a workplace. The case study to be examined will have contemporary application at the time the topic is taken.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • provide experience, contacts in the industry, exposure to current practices in the production and management of projects in the creative industries

  • develop knowledge and skills necessary to apply a body of theory to a contemporary situation

  • develop deeper understanding of an issue or process they have encountered in previous study

  • develop knowledge and skills necessary to apply a body of theory to a contemporary situation

  • provide opportunities to develop strategies relevant to the selected case study

  • assist further development of critical analysis and research skills
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • demonstrate extend knowledge of one specific area encountered in previous study

  • apply a body of theory to an issue or project in an industry relevant to a primary area of study

  • identify a range of potential strategies relevant to the case study, and select and develop those most appropriate to the case study

  • identify and follow successful strategies for research

  • identify appropriate strategies to achieve a project objective
