Topic description
This topic is about how the English language works. It aims to familiarise students with the structure of English, increase their awareness of the function of English, and create a basic understanding of how English works for the purposes of classroom practice.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • familiarise students with the structure of the English language

  • increase students' awareness of the function of English

  • create a basic understanding of the how English works for the purpose for classroom practice

  • develop a critical approach to own and others teaching of English
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • describe the structure of the English language

  • define the form and function of the English language

  • explain how to use knowledge of the form and function of the English language in classroom practice
