1. Visit the Office of Graduate Research website and familiarise yourself with the information about Cotutelle degrees and the Flinders University Cotutelle policy. You will need to ensure that you are applying within your first year of PhD Candidature.

  2. Before making your application, obtain permission from your Flinders University supervisor. They will be able to assist you in locating an overseas supervisor and host institution.

  3. Contact the Office of Graduate Research, notifying them of your intention to apply for a Cotutelle. They may be able to assist you with information on overseas institutions with existing research collaborations in your field.

  4. Locate an overseas institution and supervisor.

  5. Check that the overseas university that you have selected has a Cotutelle or jointly awarded PhD policy.

  6. Obtain approval from your prospective supervisor overseas, and notify your College Research Higher Degree Administration Officer that you will be making a Cotutelle application.

  7. Download the information suite, which includes guidelines, Cotutelle Agreement Template and application for admission forms.

  8. Contact both your overseas and your Flinders Supervisors to assist you with drafting the Cotutelle Agreement. You will need to include details about the language of your thesis and abstract, as well as the examination processes and defence . In addition include the dates that you intend to complete your Doctoral study at the overseas institution.

  9. Obtain endorsement for the Cotutelle from your Flinders University Dean of School,  Executive Dean and Research Higher Degrees Committee. Your Flinders supervisor will be able to advise and assist you with this.

  10. Familiarise yourself with the admission and enrolment procedures (including language requirements, visa conditions, tuition fee waivers etc.) of your prospective overseas institution. Your overseas supervisor should be able to put you in contact with suitable administration and government departments.

  11. Once your Cotutelle Agreement has been drafted and approved by your host institution, and you have obtained all permissions from your Flinders Supervisor, Dean of School, and Faculty Executive Dean and Faculty Research Higher Degree Committee, submit your application suite (complete with research proposal) to the Dean of Graduate Research, Professor Jeri Kroll.  You can do this by emailing the Postgraduate Research Pathways and International Project Officer Ms Emily Davis, at emily.davis@flinders.edu.au.

  12. Once the Dean of Graduate Research has examined and endorsed your application, the Flinders Cotutelle Committee will be convened to determine whether your application has been successful.

  13. If you are successful you will be notified in writing. You will then need to arrange all travel, admission, enrolment and visa requirements at your overseas institution.
