Description
This project focuses on developing a vision-based deep learning framework capable of estimating the biofouling state of a surface, identifying the species present, and modelling the rate of growth of the fouling. The resulting information can then be used to enhance the assessment of coatings during the research and development phase, as well as to identify vessels with a high potential for non-compliance with biosecurity regulations. This will ultimately enable vessel owners and operators to take proactive measures to mitigate biofouling and reduce the risk of introducing invasive species.
This project aims to understand biofouling growth in locations of interest to the industry partner, the influence of these parameters on material integrity and biofouling accumulation and composition, as well as the reciprocal influence of the materials on the local environmental water quality.
