BAE Systems Australia First Nations Scholarship in Engineering

Description

The purpose of the scholarship is to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students enrolled in undergraduate studies in engineering at Flinders University. One scholarship will be available initially.

The scholarship is funded by BAE Systems Australia, which is dedicated to building diversity in Australia’s engineering workforce.

Benefits

Each scholarship will be valued at $10,000 per annum for up to 4 years.

Eligibility

Recipients of the scholarship must:

• be of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent; and
• identify as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander; and
• be accepted as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander by the community in which they live or have lived; and
• be an Australian Citizen, and
• be enrolled full-time at Flinders University*; and
• be enrolled in the first year or second year of an eligible engineering degree^; and
• be willing to consider a placement at BAE Systems Australia during their degree.

* Recipients who have extenuating circumstances that prevent them from studying full-time (e.g. disabilities, illness, or carer responsibilities) may apply to hold their scholarship part-time subject to the provision of satisfactory independent documentation.

• Bachelor of Engineering Electrical and Electronic (Honours)
• Bachelor of Engineering Mechanical (Honours)
• Bachelor of Engineering Robotics (Honours)
• Bachelor of Engineering Maritime (Honours)
• Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Advanced Manufacturing and Digital Design)
• Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Systems and Security)

Selection Criteria

The Scholarship selection will be made based on academic merit and demonstrated interest in a career in the engineering or defence industries.

Preference may be given to students in their first year of study.

Selection of the candidate(s) will be made by the College of Science and Engineering in consultation with the Office of Indigenous Strategy and Engagement and Student Finance and Scholarships following procedures approved by the Director, Student Administration.
