Project
Topic description
Students will gain skills in analysing and presenting research findings in a scientific manner. They will work in small groups under supervision to conduct and report on a small research project. The topic will involve approximately 40 hours of project work over the semester.
Educational aims
The aims of the topic are:

  • To provide students with 'hands-on' experience in the statistical analysis and interpretation of data

  • To give students the opportunity to gain skills in reporting research findings in a scientific format (under supervised or guided conditions)

Expected learning outcomes
On completion of the topic students should be able to:

  • Demonstrate their ability to use appropriate statistical procedures for the analysis of data (collected or to be collected)

  • Interpret and draw appropriate conclusions from the results

  • Demonstrate their ability to report the outcomes of the study in a scientific format:

    • Introduction, method, results and discussion
