Topic description
This topic continues to build on skills acquired in previous performance topics, including vocal training, physical training and techniques required for music repertoire. In their acting and directing classes, students consolidate techniques required to perform the contemporary Australian repertoire on stage and screen.

Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • further equip students with the skills necessary for eventual employment as actors and directors in the theatre, television, and film industries

  • encourage all students to work as both interpretive and conceptual artists

  • provide basic understanding of vocal, physical, and imaginative techniques for performance in naturalistic productions on stage and screen
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to demonstrate:

  1. A further developed understanding of performance and directing techniques as they are currently employed within the theatre, television, and film industries

  2. Vocal, physical, emotional, and interpretive skills required by professional actors, such as:
    • advanced skills in naturalistic acting as required for proscenium theatre performance
    • an understanding of basic shot structure for acting for camera
    • physical improvisational skills and the ability to work creatively and intelligently with their bodies during performance
    • developed the vocal skill necessary for performances in proscenium theatres

  3. A further developed understanding of 20th Century music theatre repertoire
