Topic description
This topic provides a conceptual framework as well as practical information on the basic issues and special concerns associated with securing and maintaining meaningful employment experiences for individuals with disabilities. Attention is given to specific employment strategies and techniques such as: vocational assessment, career development, self-determination, job placement, job instruction, social inclusion and the provision of ongoing support. Students will learn to apply research findings to employment and rehabilitation practice and develop and implement specific support strategies.
Educational aims
The aims of this topic are:

  • To support students in gaining knowledge and skills to effectively assist individuals with disabilities to access and maintain meaningful employment experiences

  • To facilitate the application of specific tools and research findings to employment and rehabilitation practice and to the development and implementation of specific employment support strategies.
