Topic description
In this capstone topic students synthesize and apply concepts and skills learned across the Master of Disability Policy and Practice program. This topic requires students to show mastery of the material covered across the diverse range of coursework topics through several required avenues including workshop and online discussions, development of a project proposal and presentation of a final project. This course is designed to help students apply the knowledge and skills learned in the program and to explore self-perceptions related to their career choice in disability or other human services
Educational aims
This topic aims to enable students to reflect and apply:

  1. Strategies that assist students to bring coherence and relevance to completion of their masters program.

  2. High levels of communication skills and demonstrate complex and sophisticated graduate capabilities.

  3. Synthesised knowledge and skills to an authentic problem.

  4. Understanding to changes in their professional development and consolidate their learning and progress to their next career stage.

Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students must demonstrate they have:

  1. An understanding of complex and competing issues across a range of topics undertaken.

  2. An extended capacity for analytical and strategic thinking to integrate strategies from a range of topics in planning to resolve complex issues or situations.

  3. Articulated an increased understanding of their attitudes and values and their influence on their professional practice style.

  4. Been independent and individually responsible for work on their project and completed requirements within a negotiated timeframe.

  5. Integrated subject content across their course of study into their own work and career goals.
