Topic description
This topic is a combination of theoretical research, and discovery, including research of the contemporary fashion industry at a retail level. This research can be undertaken interstate or locally. Based on contemporary fashions, students will design, develop and present a project based on competition briefs, by exploring a range of fabric manipulation, and knitwear construction techniques.

By the end of this topic students will have had the opportunity to design work and garments to enter into designated competitions and for presentation in their portfolios for industry employment.
Educational aims
This topic aims to give students the opportunity to:

  • develop confidence to experiment with knitwear and fabric manipulation techniques

  • expand their design skills and critical thinking

  • develop an understanding of the nature and content of the process of developing garments in a commercial setting

  • acquired technical knowledge to enhance their abilities as fashion product developers and designers
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • create designs to meet a client brief

  • produce competition garments and supporting materials showcasing their work

  • produce products that meets industry standards

  • develop work from concept, to presentation and completion

  • develop work to meet competition requirements and deadlines.

  • display technical knowledge that will enhance their abilities as fashion product developers and designers
