Topic description
Across all sectors of sport (local, semi-professional, and elite), the analysis of athletic performance is becoming increasingly important. The topic Strength and Conditioning Coaching 4: Current Trends in Strength and Conditioning examines current technologies for analysing sports performance as a means for developing strength and conditioning training programs and improving athletic performance. Students will undertake two major assessments which will allow them to develop performance analytical skills that benefit coaches, athletes and sporting organisations.
Educational aims
Students will be provided with the opportunity to:

  • Explore the capacities and limitations of performance analysis techniques in sport;

  • Examine the role of performance analysis in developing strength and conditioning programs;

  • Review the current literature in an area of interest relating to performance analysis tools.
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • Proficiently monitor, analyse, interpret and evaluate observational and empirical performance data;

  • Apply appropriate technologies for sports performance analysis to a range of settings;

  • Develop informed strength and conditioning programs based on scientific analysis of individual and team performance data;
