Topic description
In this topic a body systems approach will be used to explore the assessment of common presentations seen in the emergency care setting. Guided by the latest evidence students will explore nursing management, treatment options and pharmacology relevant to the emergency care setting.
Educational aims
The aim of this topic is for students to develop specialised knowledge of the assessment and management of patients in emergency care environments through the critical exploration of evidence-base principles and practices.
Expected learning outcomes
On successful completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • Critically analyse evidence-based emergency care assessment frameworks for patients presenting for emergency care

  • Critique and apply evidence-based triage scales to patients presenting for emergency care

  • Analyse best practice treatment options, including pharmacology, for patients presenting for emergency care
