Topic description
This topic will introduce students to Leadership and Supervision and Collaborative Practice in Health Care Delivery including Service Planning and Project Management. The common focus for learning activities will be the critical review and debate of selected issues in collaborative practice which impact upon delivering integrated care for clients and their families/carers in relation to public health priorities and health promotion. This topic will give the students the opportunity to undertake in-depth study and complete a project following on from the project proposal prepared in semester 1. This module will enhance the student's knowledge of our health promotion role, and how activity and exercise can both maintain/improve health but also prevent ill health particularly in chronic disease management.
Educational aims
The aim of this topic is to introduce students to concepts of collaborative practice and leadership with a specific emphasis on public health priorities and health promotion within a project. This topic aims to provide students with an insight into issues which health care professionals currently face in the delivery of a quality-based service within a diverse and changing healthcare environment.
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic, students will be able to:

  • Describe and apply models of leadership and supervision

  • Critically appraise the role of the health care professional in health promotion for healthy individuals and those with clinical conditions emerging from public health priorities

  • Apply concepts of collaborative practice in health care delivery

  • Apply concepts of Service Planning and Project Management

  • Discuss the core components of clinical governance in terms of clinical effectiveness, risk management and patient and public involvement

  • Evaluate management issues in their social and political context with reference to the patient/client perspective

  • Demonstrate knowledge of and implement physiotherapy specific health promotion activities for chronic disease management

  • Demonstrate the application of specific self-management strategies within physiotherapy

  • Work with colleagues in planning and delivering a professional presentation
