Topic description
This topic explores a range of contemporary moral and ethical issues from the perspective of Christian Ethics. Starting with relevant data and a consideration of current thinking an integrated theological exploration will be developed of issues such as: war and terrorism; globalisation; ecology and sustainability; information technologies; sex slavery.
Educational aims
This topic aims to assist students to:

  • develop the capacity to gather information sufficient and relevant for ethical reflection
  • appreciate the possibilities open to theological ethical reflection across a range of issues
  • develop skills of ethical analysis that produce clearly articulated stances on particular issues
  • work collaboratively with others
  • contribute to discussion of particular topics in the market place of ideas

Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • identify the elements of contemporary discussion on particular issues
  • apply a methodology of ethical reasoning
  • incorporate the tradition and resources of Christian theology in the analysis of current ethical issues
  • contribute to group learning in effective and collaborative ways
