Topic description
This topic investigates contemporary festival and event technical production principles and practice. It examines the risk analysis and management strategies used in the planning and implementation phase of festivals and events.

The topic outlines the contemporary legal requirements for the event manager and the festival or event's host organisation in an Australian context and how those requirements can be applied in a global context.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • identify the principles and practices of event technical production within the contemporary global event industry

  • develop the knowledge and skills required to critically assess the risk factors of festivals and events and to correctly use and apply risk management techniques on a range of festivals and events

  • evaluate the issues involved with the legal, environmental and access associated with festivals and events
Expected learning outcomes
On completing of this topic students will be able to:

  • understand the principles and practices of technical production as they pertain to festivals and events

  • analyse the risks for a range of festivals and events and identify and develop the appropriate risk management strategies to minimise those risks

  • identify the relevant legal requirements of contemporary Australian festival and events and understand those requirements' application in a global event industry context
