Topic description
This topic is a component of an 18-unit topic. Students must enrol in the other component and complete the full number of units required for this topic. Students complete an 18,000 word thesis and a topic negotiated with their supervisor.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • enable students to investigate in depth a specific area dealing with contemporary issues related to legal studies

  • allow students to engage with a research area relevant to their Honours thesis research

  • encourage an inter-disciplinary approach to students' research

  • identify research and implementation strategies appropriate to the issues identified and discussed
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • adequately undertake and successfully complete a research project dealing with a specific contemporary issue in legal studies

  • identify connections between this specific area of research and their Honours thesis

  • demonstrate the ability to source and apply relevant materials from a range of disciplines to the chosen specific area of research

  • identify strategies appropriate to the issues identified through this research
