Assumed knowledge
An understanding of the principles of nutrition and dietetics in the clinical setting.
Course context
Students must have satisfactorily completed all Year 1 topics. NUTD 9215A&B are taught and assessed as a continuum. Students must enrol in both the A&B topics in the same academic year.
Topic description
In this topic students will develop the professional skills and attitudes necessary to practice as a dietitian-nutritionist. They will extend, consolidate and apply their knowledge of nutrition and dietetics through supervised professional practice placements in hospitals and other clinical settings. The topic will also examine ethical and professional issues central to practice as competent health professionals.
Educational aims
To prepare students with knowledge, skills and attitudes for entry-level practice as dietitian-nutritionists.
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of the clinical placement you should be able to demonstrate the following attributes at entry-level dietetic practice:

  • Knowledtge and skills for effective nutritional management and counselling of individual clients.

  • Professional attitudes and practices that reflect a competent health professional committed to excellence and life-long learning.

  • Ability to work as an effective member of a team and relate in a professional manner to multi-disciplinary staff.

  • Critical thinking and evaluation of nutrition & dietetic practice.
