Topic description
This topic allows students to undertake a substantial research project to culminate in the production of a thesis which has been written under the supervision of a member of staff in the Department of Screen & Media. The thesis should give evidence of the student's abilities in discovering and evaluating information, constructing an argument or thesis, and critically examining the available literature in their chosen area of enquiry. The area of study must be developed in consultation with the supervisor.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • provide students with the opportunity to explore a topic of their choice
  • allow students to developed skills in academic research and writing
  • allow students to frame, construct and execute a coherent and logical argument in written form is a primary aim
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will have the ability to:

  • articulate an original research thesis worthy of academic investigation
  • structure a coherent and extended piece of academic writing around a central investigation or thesis
  • produce a comprehensive survey of literature in relation to a given academic field
  • write grammatically and persuasively
