NURS1012 Nursing in Context A (PEP)

This topic introduces students to the nursing profession and focuses on preparation for placement where nursing skills, attitudes and attributes support safe provision of patient-centred care at an introductory level in the Australian context.?The focus is on care of the older person in the community. This topic includes 160 hours of professional placement.

This topic aims to develop introductory nursing skills (including therapeutic and professional communication) and knowledge in preparation for professional practice and to develop an understanding of the Fundamentals of Care Framework, evidenced-based nursing practice and application to nursing practice.

1. Demonstrate a beginning level understanding of the skills, knowledge and attitudes required in the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia Registered Nurse Standards
2. Apply knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology and microbiology with the fundamentals of care framework to delivering person-centred care
3. Construct therapeutic and professional communication techniques in line with national quality and safety standards, professional standards and codes
4. Prepare for and engage in professional behaviours including, but not limited to, pre-placement clinical preparation
