Topic description

This topic will focus on technological interventions used in telehealth and communications. We will examine new innovations and current practices, review the underlying principles for the use of such technologies, and discuss considerations for their implementation in different health settings.

Educational aims

This topic aims to:

  • Develop and apply specialised knowledge of telehealth in a range of health settings
  • Promote the use of evidence based practice in the implementation of telehealth and communication technology
  • Develop the skills required for the integration of communication technology in to the communication practices in health settings
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to able to:

  1. Effectively communicate the underlying theories of using communication technologies in the health setting
  2. Formulate a plan for the delivery of health communication using digital technologies
  3. Present a clear and coherent understanding of the barriers to the implementation of telehealth technology
  4. Compare and contrast the different demands for synchronous and asynchronous communication in health communications
  5. Demonstrate an integrated knowledge of the technological and equipment requirements of the health service provider and the consumer in a successful telehealth program
