Assumed knowledge
This topic assumes completion of an Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts. Students will be expected to be familiar with the practice and theory of the studio in which they complete their study

Topic description
This topic provides students with the opportunity to explore ideas around museums, and their practices, and to make connections between these types of organisations and institutions, and their own creative practice.

A range of cultural and practical issues and theories will be discussed, including the representation and interpretation of art works. These ideas will be placed in a number of historical contexts, and the evolution of museum practice will be explored.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • provide students with opportunities to find connections between their own creative practice, and the museoligical practises

  • develop creative processes relevant to the interpretation of the cultural contexts of the museum

  • develop students’ abilities to document the creative and critical process
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate skills and experience in the conceptual development and production of art works, which engage with ideas around the museum and its practices

  • Critically analyse and evaluate art work, engage in critical discussion with their peers using terms and concepts understood from historical and contemporary art practice.
