SPTH3904 Speech Pathology Practicum 2

The emphasis of Speech Pathology Practicum 2 is on the practical application of the theory gained in the Professional Studies & Communication Sciences and Clinical Skills & Practice topics during years one, two and three of the program. This unit facilitates ongoing understanding and application of speech pathology management through supervised practical experience with clients presenting with a range of communication and swallowing difficulties.

This topic aims to:

• Facilitate students' ability to apply the theory gained in the Professional Studies & Communication Sciences and Clinical Skills & Practice topics during years one and two and three of the program in a practical setting
• Facilitate ongoing understanding and application of speech pathology management through supervised practical experience with clients presenting with a range of communication and swallowing difficulties

1. Demonstrate intermediate level competence in the integration and application of knowledge and skills in the Generic professional competencies of Reasoning, Communication, Lifelong Learning and Professionalism
2. Demonstrate intermediate level competence in the integration and application of knowledge and skills in the occupational competencies of: Assessment; Analysis and Interpretation; Planning of Speech Pathology Intervention; Speech Pathology Intervention; Planning, Maintaining and Delivering Speech Pathology Services; Professional, Group and Community Education and Professional Development
3. Implement evidence-based practice by relating theory to practice while providing services to clients with communication and/or swallowing difficulties under guidance and supervision of a placement educator with increasing independence
4. Undertake routine or familiar aspects of speech pathology services and client management under guidance and supervision of a placement educator with increasing independence
