Topic description

The emphasis of Speech Pathology Practicum 2 is on the practical application of the theory gained in the Professional Studies & Communication Sciences and Clinical Skills & Practice topics during years one, two and three of the program. This unit facilitates ongoing understanding and application of speech pathology management through supervised practical experience with clients presenting with a range of communication and swallowing difficulties.

Educational aims

This topic aims to:

  • Facilitate students' ability to apply the theory gained in the Professional Studies & Communication Sciences and Clinical Skills & Practice topics during years one and two and three of the program in a practical setting
  • Facilitate ongoing understanding and application of speech pathology management through supervised practical experience with clients presenting with a range of communication and swallowing difficulties
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Demonstrate intermediate level competence in the integration and application of knowledge and skills in the Generic professional competencies of Reasoning, Communication, Lifelong Learning and Professionalism

  3. Implement evidence-based practice by relating theory to practice while providing services to clients with communication and/or swallowing difficulties under guidance and supervision of a placement educator with increasing independence
  4. Undertake routine or familiar aspects of speech pathology services and client management under guidance and supervision of a placement educator with increasing independence
