Topic description

This topic focuses on opportunities and challenges for social work related to contemporary glocal trends, including social, environmental, demographic and technological changes. Students will be exposed to sustained, transformative and innovative approaches in Social Work that may include theory of change, green social work, climate change adaptation, responses to disaster and pandemics, and social media and information technology use. Students will discuss strategies to ensure sustainable change in their own professional practice.

Educational aims

This topic aims to prepare students for future social work practice. Students will develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to navigate the challenges and opportunities facing the profession in sustainable ways.

On completion of this topic you will be expected to able to:

  1. Evaluate contemporary glocal, social, political and environmental trends and challenges for social work
  2. Assess the competing interests inherent in social work’s sustained approaches, innovation and advancements
