Topic description
This topic addresses two major aspects of applied psychology, namely assessment and interventions. Students learn about basic psychological assessment strategies in situations relevant to psychological practice, and principles relating the construction, cultural considerations, implementation, and interpretation of psychological measures. The topic also covers general psychological interventions, both preventative strategies and treatments, to promote mental, physical, and social health in a broad range of contexts.

This topic aims to teach students about strategies to:
- Assess cognition, beliefs and wellbeing in a culturally- and age-appropriate manner
- Promote and safeguard wellbeing
- Evaluate intervention outcomes

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
- Articulate principles for assessing cognition, beliefs and wellbeing
- Describe general interventions for promoting and safeguarding wellbeing
- Suggest methods of evaluating intervention outcomes, and critically evaluate studies of intervention outcomes
