The topic is professionally oriented and is intended for people currently employed in the field of education, those who would like to be so employed, and those who have an interest in expanding their knowledge and practice with a focus on using technology to further enhance teaching and learning. Therefore there is an assumption that students understand how to plan for and implement teaching for effective learning.

Topic description

This topic enables students to undertake an action research project using technology to enhance teaching practices. Students will be supported to create a plan for implementing and evaluating the effectiveness of the technology through a peer review/ design for learning process. Students are required to present the outcomes and evaluation of their findings.

Educational aims

This topic aims to provide students with opportunities within the field of technology enhanced practice to:

  • Expand their knowledge and understanding about the use of technologies to enhance education
  • Engage in professional reflective evidence-based practice
  • Adhere to ethical research standards and practices
  • Apply knowledge from research into educational practice
  • Further enhance capabilities for using technologies in educational settings
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Evaluate knowledge about the affordances of technologies for enhancing learning processes
  2. Relate findings from research studies on the use of technologies to an authentic practice situation
  3. Design, conduct and evaluate a small, action research project on the use of technology in an educational setting
  4. Peer review action research plans/projects through constructive feedback and recommendations
  5. Integrate high standards of academic integrity into practice
  6. Defend knowledge and application of technologies to innovate practice using presentations and discussions
