Topic description

This topic allows students to develop a Masters dissertation research proposal, both in a peer-based classroom setting, and through individual contact with a supervisor.

Students will identify a research paradigm and methodology, as well as developing a preliminary literature review. Research proposals will be reviewed, and approved as part of a Masters dissertation.

Educational aims

This topic aims to:

  • Allow students to develop an academic research proposal
  • Further develop their understanding of research design
  • Undertake a scholarly discussion concerning their own research area
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Construct a valid and reliable research proposal
  2. Develop a logical and coherent research design
  3. Analyse critically literature in their research area and link it to their own research
  4. Communicate their research design, both verbally and in writing, to a range of audiences
