Topic description
This topic builds upon students' previous knowledge to provide training in a range of advanced field methods. The topic will contain some lecture and workshop content, but will mostly be directed towards teaching students hands-on technical skills.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:
- Develop advanced field skills associated with the practice of archaeology and cultural heritage management in Australia and overseas
- Further develop students' knowledge of ethical practice in archaeology
- Advance students' familiarity with theoretical, methodological and political issues in archaeological research
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
- Accurately and appropriately record sites, artefacts and landscapes at an advanced level
- Undertake research with communities in an ethical and culturally appropriate way
- Understand the diverse techniques used in archaeological site and artefact recording, management, and conservation
- Appropriately record, store, and disseminate findings relating to archaeology
- Record and document the fieldwork process to an acceptable professional standard
