Topic description

This topic builds upon first year learning to extend the understanding of the role of the Registered Nurse in person-centred care and develop professional attributes for practice in an interprofessional context. It includes professional placement. This topic includes 160 hours of professional placement.

Educational aims

This topic aims to explore and apply evidence-based practice and decision-making processes in relation to person centred care to advance nursing skill development for a range of interprofessional contexts.

Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Demonstrate critical thinking and the application of clinical reasoning in the performance of clinical skills to provide patient centred fundamental care across a variety of settings
  2. Determine and compare the roles of the interprofessional health care team for provision of person-centred fundamental care
  3. Examine therapeutic and professional communication techniques in line with professional standards and codes
  4. Evaluate the principles of ‘quality use of medicines’ and the interprofessional/consumer partnerships associated with the concept
  5. Apply numeracy skills to medication calculation formula
