Topic description

The purpose of this topic is for participants to deepen their knowledge and skills in research methodologies in the Humanities and Social Sciences. The primary focus is the use of multidisciplinary workshops to provide participants with a broad understanding of research methodologies. Through assessment tasks, participants will apply this knowledge to their specific area of research to develop an appropriate methodological framework for their Honours thesis. The topic will provide participants with multi-disciplinary skills and knowledge.

Educational aims

This topic aims to introduce key methodological perspectives in research at Honours level, enabling participants to deepen their methodological knowledge and skills to effectively undertake and complete their Honours thesis.

Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Compare and contrast multi-disciplinary Humanities and Social Sciences research methodologies at a high level
  2. Develop an appropriate methodological framework for the Honours thesis
  3. Model research at a high level via oral communication and assessment using advanced critical writing skills
  4. Explain the use of practical research skills in literature reviews and academic argument
