My primary interests are child and adult responses to traumatic stressors (e.g., physical and sexual assault, motor vehicle accidents, losing relatives to homicide and combat/war-related trauma). I am specifically interested in how acute stress disorder (ASD) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) develop following trauma, and in the treatment of these disorders.
Samantha Angelakis
Project title: Treatment of comorbid posttraumatic stress disorder and major depression: A combined treatment approach
Caitlin Hitchcock
Project title: Overgeneral autobiographical memory in children who have experienced trauma
Potential PhD Projects:
I supervise both clinical and nonclinical PhD projects in the area of posttraumatic stress in children and adults. In 2012 I have several possible projects in mind that could be undertaken. One project would look at the role of sad mood/depression on the development of intrusive memories following trauma. Another project would look at the psychological adjustment of survivors of recent sexual assault in a prospective design.
